Tournament format

The TCEC Swiss 4 uses the TCEC Swiss Tournament System with the following configuration:

  • 11 double rounds
  • Group seeding with 42 engines divided in 7 groups of 6 engines. Groups populated using TCEC Season 23 and Swiss 3 compiled final results.

Bugfixes and problems

Bugs (or problems) found during the Swiss:

  1. Smallbrain crash Testing Game 5 - TB & SMP-related. Fixed.
  2. Drofa Testing Games 47-48. Bug probably related to TT/SMP. Downgraded from version 3.3.27 to 3.3.26. Seems OK.
  3. Uralochka time losses in Testing games 96 (OK since only by 17ms, 1 second limit in Swiss), 115 & 116
  4. Lc0 games 36 and 70. 1. In the Swiss Leela's Elo based dynamic contempt is capped at maximum of a 1000 Elo difference. 2. Inaccurate BT2 WDL and not enough safeguarding 3. Higher risk of bad eval with higher contempt and higher search depth ⭐ Elo difference to opponent for each round: 1. Cheese 660, 2. Drofa 345, 3. Mantissa 273, 4. Berserk 95 5. Minic 83 6. Etc.
  5. Counter game 104 took more than 120 seconds to start. Game restarted. Temporary fix: recompile cutechess-cli with 180s ping time instead of 120s one. Actual fix: in testing check all engine initialization times, any taking more than 60s will reduce hash size until <=60s.
  6. Wasp crash game 266. Later fixed for Leagues 2

  1. ClassicAra - invitation declined, may participate in the future again
  2. tomitankChess - update mandatory for participation - no update received
  3. Asymptote - update mandatory for participation - no update received
  4. Booot - did not reply
  5. ChessCoach - cannot participate atm, but would like to in the future
